DJ Dread, a.k.a. Pete Banks, is one of the top jungle DJs in the United States. If you have not heard his name yet, it is only a matter of time, you will. Having started spinning at the early age of 12, he has become one of the veterans of the US Jungle scene. Having spun in places like Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando, Miami, Columbus, and Akron, he has continued to put his own mark on the US Jungle scene.
Currently working out of St. Pete., Fl. with his crew, State Side Records, consisting of Dread, Praying Mantis, DJ Bamboo, Smooth Face , Om, J-Rider, MC Clese 1, MC Velo Banko. After releasing his first track called "Blackheart," he has been feverishly working in the studio to drop his second release with his partner Praying Mantis. Not only is Dread the "papa," of the State Side crew, but he is also one of the only US DJs on Strictly Underground, one of England’s top labels.
Having spun with the likes of Grooverider, Aphrodite, Marvellous Cain, DJ Kid, and numerous other top European DJS, and having opened for acts like De La Soul, Dread has become one of the most in demand Jungle DJs in the South.
When he spins, Dread knows how to please the crowd and would put a lot of so called British DJs to shame. His style as a DJ shows his maturity, as he knows how to cut up the beats with speed and accuracy as well as work his sets like a journey. His knowledge and and understanding of jungle will without a doubt keep this rude boy Selekta, ranked as one of the top 10 American Jungle DJs for years to come.
Believe me when I say this, Dread is one of the wickedest Selektas I have ever seen. If you are a true junglist or drum and bass fan, you need to check him out. He is the reason that I got into this industry and was the initial inspiration for The Selekta (hence the name). He will make you move and when I think about his style, all I can say is REWIND, REWIND
